Amid the DC Reboot, Aquaman 2 Director Announces Next Superhero Project
After the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan is working on a new superhero project for Disney+.
Wan will be back in theaters this December with Aquaman 2, Jason Momoa's second solo outing, but his future has been left unknown.
While DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has indicated that Momoa "always saw Aquaman as a trilogy
" the most recent developments imply that the actor will leave the role, therefore ending Wan's Atlantean superhero franchise.
Wan has now directed two Aquaman films and was working on a Trench horror film featuring Black Manta, which was regrettably canceled.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Annabelle writer Gary Dauberman is working on a new Gargoyles superhero.
Wan formally confirmed the news on Instagram, reposting the article and expressing delight to reunite with Dauberman for Gargoyles, referring to him as a "true fan" of the mythos:
Dauberman will allegedly act as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series
while Atomic Monster CEO Michael Clear and James Wan will also serve as executive producers.
The live-action project, which is apparently in the early stages of development, will adapt Disney's three-season Gargoyles cartoon series from the 1990s.
