Bears Trade Proposal Ships $5.5 Million Playmaker Out of Chicago

The Chicago Bears, with a 1-5 record, might consider trading Darnell Mooney leading up to the NFL's trade deadline on October 31.

They could potentially find a trade partner in the injury-plagued Los Angeles Chargers.

Mooney has been a valuable starter for the Bears since he joined the team in 2020 as a fifth-round pick. He exceeded 1,000 receiving yards during Justin Fields' rookie season in 2021.

However, in the first six games of 2023, he has had inconsistent performance with just 10 catches for 152 yards and a touchdown, including three games with zero catches as a starting wide receiver.

Furthermore, Mooney is in the final year of his $5.5 million rookie contract and might not be a priority for the Bears as they continue their rebuild in 2024.

Los Angeles could benefit from another deep threat for Justin Herbert following Mike Williams' season-ending injury.

In the proposed trade, the Bears would trade Mooney to the Chargers in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick, currently projected to be No. 109 overall.

This trade would give the Bears flexibility with three fourth-round selections for the upcoming draft.

The trade rumors regarding Darnell Mooney were dismissed at the start of the 2023 season by Bears' general manager Ryan Poles.

However, given recent developments, including the trade involving Chase Claypool, which backfired for the Bears, and an injury to Justin Fields, the Bears may need to reevaluate their trade options.

One potential obstacle for the Bears in trading Mooney is their dwindling depth at the wide receiver position.
