Buffalo Bills attempted to trade for QB Trey Lance
San Francisco 49ers traded embattled quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys late Friday night. With all things NFL, the Cowboys weren't the only offer.
According to Cam Inman, the Buffalo Bills tried to deal Lance, but Dallas offered more to the Niners.
So there: The Bills tried to recruit quarterbacks. Whether this revelation motivates Kyle Allen and Matt Barkley or complicates locker room matters is uncertain.
It's intriguing that One Bills Drive offered Lance. Whatever that offer was, it was less than Jerry Jones and the Cowboys were willing to trade for a fourth-round pick. Overall, the team wants to improve behind Josh Allen.
Lance's role with the Bills is unclear. He needs a career rebuild, but Mitch Trubisky never got an opportunity to play much in Buffalo and hasn't had a career revival since leaving the Bills.
Buffalo's offensive scheme is famously difficult to grasp, which could have been challenging for a quarterback who's only played eight NFL games, four starts.
The 49ers traded with the Miami Dolphins for Lance third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, giving up their 2021, 2022, and 2023 first-round picks and their 2022 third-round pick.
But since then, things haven't gone as planned. From learning behind Jimmy Garoppolo and replacing him due to injury to starting in 2022 but being injured in Week 2 and losing the season.
