Colorado football inches closer to securing high-profile prospect after latest cut

A road game against No. 25 UCLA next Saturday will bring more adversity to the struggling Colorado football team.

According to Hayes Fawcett of, Riley Pettijohn, the third-ranked linebacker in the 2025 class, 

has reduced the number of schools on his list to 12. The Buffaloes belong to a select club that also consists of prestigious schools like Michigan, Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas.

USC, another defensively weak team in the Pac-12 and a rival of Colorado until 2024, is also vying for the talented player. 

According to predictions made by's recruiting prediction tool, SMU is currently the favorite to sign Pettijohn, but one cannot discount Sanders' appeal. 

There are not many recruiting challenges he cannot overcome because he has attracted commitments from top talent like Travis Hunter.
