Lionel Messi returns from Argentina service to see Inter Miami struggle yet further without him, as a late Robbie Robinson strike denies Charlotte in a 2-2 MLS tie.

Despite playing in Argentina's 2-0 win over Peru during the international break, Messi elected to sit out the MLS match owing to a lack of recovery time.

He did, however, return to his base in the United States on Wednesday evening to see his teammates play in their final home game against Charlotte at the DRV Pink Stadium.

The hosts fell behind just before halftime, with Enzo Copetti scoring after being set up by Kerwin Vargas.

Their delight, however, was short-lived, as Nicolas Stefanelli equalized in the sixth minute of additional time

Ensuring that both teams walked into the tunnel with the score levelled at 1-1.

Charlotte came out strong in the second half and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Vargas scored his team's second goal.

Kamil Jozwiak sent in a low cross near the penalty spot, but Copetti let it run to Vargas

Who made no mistake in slotting the ball home with a first-time finish.

Miami put up the heat after falling behind and pushed Kristijan Kahlina to make two crucial saves before the hour mark.

However, the shot-stopper was unable to keep away Robinson's header off a Leo Campana cross in the 84th minute, allowing Miami to escape with a draw.
