‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One’ Cost Paramount Money with Its Late PVOD Arrival
This week's PVOD and Netflix charts provide some important insights.
As expected,
the recently released "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" tops all charts during its first week of availability.
That follows its publication by 90 days. Did theaters gain anything? Actually, no.
Eight studio films, including six from Universal, make up Netflix's top 10, including Melissa McCarthy's #1 "Tammy.
The big news here, though? "Fair Play," which debuted at #1 last week and cost the streamer $20 million to acquire from Sundance, fell off the list after just eight days.
Both offer a conclusion that might affect choices made in the future. It was hoped that "
"Reckoning" would have a longer theatrical run by delaying its initial home release by 90 days. That did not occur.
It made less than $2 million in theater revenue in the 30 days prior to its PVOD release.
