Patrick Mahomes has responded emphatically to the Chiefs' announcement of his new job.
Mahomes is largely considered as the best active quarterback in the NFL, and some say that at the age of 28,
he could challenge Tom Brady for the title of greatest of all time. As a result, naming him as a possible punter seems strange
but with Tommy Townsend out, Mahomes is unquestionably their best option.
Townsend tore his ACL in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, and video of Mahomes punting the ball in practice surfaced this week.
Mahomes took to social media after Chiefs assistant coach Dave Toub named him the team's backup
quarterback. When reporters asked Toub who would punt the ball for the team, he said,
In Townsend's absence, he responded in an odd manner. "[Mahomes] is our backup punter," Toub explained.
"He has the ability. He demonstrates everything he does [during practice]. Boom. That guy is amazing."
