Gwen Stefani threatens to "spank" Chechi Sarai after her "insecure" performance on "The Voice."
On NBC's "The Voice," Gwen Stefani isn't hesitant to provide some harsh criticism, even if it veers toward the kinky end.
Tuesday night's Battles third round was turned into a sobfest by Team Gwen singers Calla Prejean
and Chechi Sarai when they gave an emotional rendition of Lady Gaga's "A Star is Born" hit "I'll Never Love Again."
Onstage, Sarai, who struggled in rehearsals to show her personality, dazzled Stefani with her flawless range.
The "Hollaback Girl" singer, however, detected some lingering anxiety and decided to give the Michigan singer a sassy pep talk.
"That was like to a Grammys opening verse. Although performance was excellent, Stefani remarked,
"I could still see this little part of (an) insecure version of you that doesn't belong in your life or on that stage.
I'm simply going to have to slap you, like, no, because you're just not that girl. Stefani is committed to making Sarai shine. She deemed the 32-year-old the victor of the conflict.
